Middle East Report

The Middle East Report is a magazine published by the Middle East Research and Information Project (MERIP). Since 2022, its executive editor and managing editor have been based at the University of Exeter.^[1]

History and profile

In its online version, the Middle East Report is made available as an open access publication, with text versions of its entire archive available on its website. Digital versions of the print edition are available through JSTOR.

Opinions

The magazine is consistently critical of Israel, Zionism,^[2] and the foreign relations of the United States in the Middle East. In 1998, the editor wrote:

US foreign policy exacerbates the disastrous state of affairs in the contemporary Middle East. Although the political contours of the world have changed radically since the collapse of the USSR and the Gulf War of 1991, US goals in the region have remained remarkably consistent: to control the flow of oil, to prevent the growth of Arab nationalist and leftist movements and to protect Israel.^[3]

Staff

Until 1995, Joe Stork was editor-in-chief.^[4] From 1995 to 2017 the editor-in-chief was Chris Toensing.^[5] The magazine's current executive editor is Katie Natanel and its managing editor is Marya Hannun.^[6]
